Kick off the series with the culinary brilliance of Chef Michelle Wallace. Michelle Wallace, a St. Louis native now based in Houston, TX, is the Chef, Owner, and Pitmaster of B’tween Sandwich Co. While studying healthcare administration at Texas Southern University, she discovered her passion for cooking, which led her to culinary school at the Art Institute of Houston. Michelle honed her skills in fine dining, catering, and as Executive Chef at Gatlin’s BBQ under James Beard-nominated pitmaster Greg Gatlin. Recognized as CultureMap Houston’s Rising Star Chef in 2021 and a member of James Beard’s TasteTwenty, Michelle launched B’tween Sandwich Co. in 2023, specializing in comfort food, smoked meats, and creative sandwiches.
Event #2: Chef Amanda Turner | February 2nd
Celebrate the artistry of Chef Amanda Turner. Amanda Turner, a native of Arlington, TX, now based in Austin, is the Chef de Cuisine at the acclaimed Southern restaurant Olamaie. With over a decade of experience in Austin's vibrant culinary scene, Amanda has worked with esteemed chefs like Tyson Cole of Uchi and "Top Chef" winner Paul Qui. Her diverse expertise spans Japanese cuisine, pasta, pastry, and whole-animal butchery. In 2017, Amanda was awarded the Mentor BKB grant, which enabled her to cook in Japan at renowned establishments DEN and Ryugin.
At Olamaie, Amanda has earned numerous accolades, including being a James Beard Emerging Chef semifinalist in 2022, StarChefs’ Rising Star in 2023, and CultureMap’s Tastemaker Chef of the Year in 2023. She combines her varied culinary influences with modern Southern cuisine, exploring the rich depths of the African diaspora and Austin's local ingredients. Amanda’s innovative approach continues to redefine fusion and celebrate the vibrancy of Southern food traditions.
Event #3: Chef Savannah Miller | February 23rd
Conclude this extraordinary series with the unparalleled expertise of Chef Savannah Miller. Savannah Miller, a native of Southern Pines, NC, is the Chef de Cuisine at M Tempura in Durham. Her passion for hospitality began in her teenage years and led her to pursue a culinary career. After graduating from the New England Culinary Institute, Savannah joined the opening team at Matthew Jennings’ Townsman in Boston, where she spent four years mastering New England cuisine.
In 2018, Savannah returned to North Carolina to partner with Chef Michael Lee in opening M Tempura, a 30-seat tasting-menu restaurant. Over the next four years, she honed her expertise in Japanese and Korean cuisine while emphasizing locally sourced ingredients and supporting the region’s purveyors. Her commitment to community and culinary innovation makes her a standout in the Durham food scene.
